Savremena Politika: EC recommending stronger Org Crime Prosecution

“The Commission is closely monitoring the development of the situation in the judiciary in Serbia, especially within Chapter 23: Judiciary and Fundamental Rights. Our position and assessment of the situation regarding the domain of the judiciary in Serbia are clearly presented in our latest Expansion Report. It emphasizes the importance of securing judicial independence and autonomy of prosecutors, and points out that the political pressure on the judiciary, as well as on the prosecutor’s office, remains high, with inappropriate public comments on investigations and judicial processes that are ongoing, by the government and public officials of the highest level,“ Savremena Politika quoted the EC as saying in its replies.
