Osim doziranja, važan je i oblik vitamina D koji uzimate. Najčešće ćete naići na vitamin D2, odnosno ergokalciferol, i vitamin D3, odnosno kolekalciferol. D2 se nalazi u biljkama i pečurkama, dok je D3 prisutan u namirnicama životinjskog porekla, na primer u masnoj ribi. D3 je ujedno i oblik koji telo prirodno stvara izlaganjem sunčevoj svetlosti, pa se u pravilu smatra efikasnijim izborom u obliku dodatka ishrani.
