JCC concerned over limited progress in Serbia’s EU accession

According to the JCC, media freedom, media pluralism, and the safety of journalists remain key challenges in Serbia and noted that reports indicated that journalists and media staff continue to face harassment, threats, smear campaigns, SLAPPs and digital surveillance, creating a climate of fear and self-censorship. It condemned all attacks on journalists and media staff, including physical assaults and hostile verbal attacks by high-ranking officials and MPs, which contribute to a hostile environment and may incite pressure or violence and called the Serbian authorities to take immediate and effective measures to protect journalists.
