Povećan unos crvenog mesa povezan je i sa većim rizikom od razvoja dijabetesa tipa 2 i nekih vrsta kancer, a konzumacija više od tri i po porcije nedeljno dovodi se u vezu sa povećanom ukupnom smrtnošću. Poređenja radi, porcija mesa iznosi oko 85 grama, dok prosečan komad mesa ima 280 do 400 grama.
